A leadership story in three acts

Act 1…

You’re new. Struggling to find your feet. Imposter syndrome bites. So maybe you pretend to be more confident than you really are. Or you retreat into yourself a bit. The new challenge of managing people is hard and you’re overwhelmed by having so much stuff to do.

Act 2…

You’re starting to get the hang of things, but realise you have to LEARN about leadership. You’re picking things up as you go, but to progress you need books, videos, training and mentoring to figure out what really matters. Some people put this off and keep muddling through. Some people dive in and start really thinking about and developing their leadership personality and approach.

Act 3…

You have your leadership style locked in. You know your team. You understand your boss and your business. You’re getting results. So you get promoted.

And suddenly you’re back in Act 1 again!
